Skrillex surprise-drops fifth album SOMA with zero rollout

In one line

Skrillex released his fifth studio album SOMA on June 5, 2026 as a full surprise through OWSLA, after teasing only a cryptic tracklist on Instagram Stories. The 13-track record features Young Miko, ISOxo, Blawan, Chris Lake, Feid and more, spanning trap, UK bass, breaks, house and hard groove.

Skrillex does not do rollouts anymore. On June 5 he dropped SOMA, his fifth studio album, with nothing but a cryptic tracklist on his Instagram Stories days before. Thirteen tracks, straight to OWSLA, no campaign.

The guest list is global and deliberately uncategorizable: Young Miko on Duro, ISOxo twice, a Blawan, Randomer and MC Dricka three-way on Thistle, plus Chris Lake, Feid, BEAM, Anita B Queen, Nitepunk, Naisha and RHR. The record moves through experimental trap, UK bass, breakbeat, house, techno and hard groove without asking permission.

The drop was one move in a bigger week. CONTRA, his new event platform built with Berlin Atonal, debuted at Kraftwerk Berlin on May 30 and 31, and he returned to Primavera Sound Barcelona the same weekend the album landed, playing Friday and curating a stage Saturday.

SOMA is his second album since parting with Atlantic, following last year's gloriously titled F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ANDY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! and the vault behind this independent run reportedly holds hundreds of finished tracks. The lesson for everyone else: when the catalog is deep enough, the release strategy can simply be release.
