Marcel Dettmann turns My Own Shadow into a 19-track album on !K7

For most of his career Marcel Dettmann has been shorthand for a particular kind of Berlin techno: stripped back, heavy and built for long nights at Berghain, where he has held a residency for years. His next album suggests he is now more interested in what happens when you take that sound apart. My Own Shadow: Album arrives on !K7 on November 13, and it is his first full-length since Fear Of Programming came out on Dekmantel in November 2022.

The record runs to 19 tracks and moves through house, techno, electro, EBM and ambient. Lead single 'Resolution Vector' is already out, and the tracklist reads like one long mood board, from 'Reconstruct Memory' and 'Midnight Structure' through 'City Remains' and 'Gravitational Scar' to the closing 'Afterimage'. !K7 has it on pre-order as a double LP plus digital under catalogue number K7461.

The album is the end point of a project rather than a standalone drop. Dettmann launched My Own Shadow in 2025 with the Approaching EP, followed it with Faultline this year, and used both to fold photography and visual work into the music. He frames the name less as an alias and more as himself seen from another angle, and he talks about sound in visual terms: take one element, cut it up and reassemble it until it becomes something new, the way you might treat a landscape photograph. His brief to listeners is disarmingly simple: "I just want them to feel something."

For managers, the rollout is the part worth studying. Instead of a cold album announcement, Dettmann spent roughly two years building a world around the record: a name, a visual language and two EPs that primed DJs and press before the long-player landed. The artwork, a black and white portrait set against flat red, carries that identity straight onto the sleeve. It is a slower route than the single every six weeks model, but it hands promoters and journalists a story rather than just a release date.

There is a booking angle too. A November release on !K7, the label behind the long-running DJ-Kicks series that Dettmann himself has mixed, puts fresh material in play for the winter club season and the first festival conversations of 2027. And for the DJs who already play his records, 19 tracks spread across tempos and moods is a deep pool of tools, not only a listening album.
